IVF in Singapore
I have been talking about IVF with a girlfriend who is undergoing this procedure in the USA. Hubby and I are also considering this option in case we are still unsuccessful in trying to conceive by the end of this year. This program involves daily anti-hormone injections for a period of 2-3 weeks, followed by hormone injections to stimulate egg growth for another 2 weeks. Egg extraction will then be performed with embryo transfer 2-3 days later.
IVF treatment however is not very cheap. In the Philippines, according to my girlfriend it would be around
P300,000.00 ( us $6,468.00) while in Singapore IVF- ICSI treatment can cost from about US$7,000 to $10,000 per cycle.
When I say per cycle it means per trial, you see it’s not very sure that you will be successful on the first time you do this procedure. I was wondering if there is a health insurance that covers the cost of the procedure. It would definitely be a great help.
The coming days I will try to spend some time and read some articles on IVF to make an informed decision.
Have you or do you know somebody who has gone through this procedure as well? Please share here your experiences or knowledge on the subject. It would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve always found IVF as a fascinating subject. In fact my wife and I have considered it since we wanted another child but we also wanted to spare my wife from a 6th pregnancy…I look forward to your updates.
Jade on Jan 8, 2009
@ liza – yeah it is really expensive lalo na kung di mag work out the first time. I hope that we can do it naturally too.
Happy New Year to you too!
Jade on Jan 8, 2009
@ Chris – It is really interesting. I will definitely be keeping you guys updated.

hi, Jade… I think the option is worth a try:) my sister did the same and so lucky to have it done successfully on a first try. She used to work in a big company and so it was covered by her health insurance. It was 5 years ago here in CA and it cost around 10grand… she was only 25 by then maybe that helped her case… the baby is healthy, smart and beautiful! hehehe…
hope all is well with your plans, don’t give up on hope:)
anyways, I got my LV from online : http://www.bagborroworsteal.com/product/5705/Handbag/Louis-Vuitton/Louis-Vuitton-Monogram-Speedy-30-Handbag
it’s not that much compared to the displays in their shops:) sort of an outlet online store…
okay, tc!
Jade on Jan 11, 2009
@ Shawie – That’s good but here in SG there are not alot of insurance that covers it I am afraid. *sigh* She’s 25 – ok now I am confident. I think age is also a big factor. I heard that the older the woman is the higher the risk of not having a successful trial.
That’s a cool website – I think it was mentioned in Sex and the City

It is expensive especially here in Singapore. Back home (Australia) the government allows us some cash rebates. I’ve looked into getting separate health insurance from the one my hubby’s company provides and the international companies offers insurance with coverage (Bupa International). It’s worth looking into if you have a year or so up your sleeve, because you need to wait for the waiting period before you can claim.
Good luck….I came across your blog via Expat Blog.

Hi Trailing Spouse,
Nice to have you in my blog! I think that in Holland – you could get a part back from the insurance. I will look into BUPA cause I think we would still be here for a year or 2. I think my hubby’s company is with AIG.

Hello Jade,
My husband and I will have our first appointment with the IVF doctor in Seattle tomorrow. We inquired that the cost for the procedures would be between $12T to 13T. While, with our BlueCross insurance we may be able to save at least $5T. ‘Hope and pray everything will work well.

@ Ria – Thank you so much!
Jade on Feb 4, 2009
@ Marvie – Thank you for your input. It’s good to know what IVF would cause in the US. I hope you came back and let us know how you are doing.
I might do in the middle of the year.

IVF can be very frsutrating. The KEY is to find a good Dr. that you feel comforatable with and you trust.
Peronally, I do not recommend Dr. Lee Wei Hong at Paragon Medical Center.
Prices are much higher and he will call you in for visits, scans and pills for no reason.
You end up spending too much money and eventually get frustrated since nothing happens only to start looking for a new Dr and to start all over agian.
Avoid the hassle.
My opinion.

Hi! I’m from the Philippines and have been trying to get pregnant for 7 years now. I have many fertility problems though (endometriosis, pco, low LAT, etc.) and so have had many surgeries and done IVF 3 times in Taiwan. I am planning on going to Singapore for my 4th try and am trying to get in touch with Dr. Suresh Nair. Does anyone happen to know how to get in touch with him? He was recommended, but I wasn’t given an email address. The cost in Taiwan was approximately $6000 (US dollars) all in (medicine, dr’s fees, procedures, hotel stay, food, flight from Manila, etc.). How much does it cost in Singapore? I am quite curious as I have heard that it is quite expensive
In Manila, IVF cost is approximately $10000 (US dollars) for the actual IVF treatment alone. I would love any kind of feedback.
Thanks!

Hi Nicole. I’ve heard that IVF in Cebu costs less and has high success rate but much cheaper… have u heard of Dr. Marivic Tan ? Costs about P 250 – P350K. Landline is 2562433.

Hi jade! I am also based in SG. My hubby and I have been married for 7 years and been trying to get pregnant eversince. We moved in SG in 2007 and have seen 2 doctors for 3 years now and have done 5 failed IUIs. I am thinking of having IUI in SG as I am also working here so doing it in Philippines is not an option. Which hospital did you do your IUI and who’s your doctor? Did you need to take. Leave from work during the IVF process? Tnx for sharing your story and goodluck with the baby! God bless!
Jade on Feb 17, 2010
Hi Momma@heart – Nice to hear from you. Looks like we have a lot in common. I am also married for 7 years but we just started trying 2 years ago. What I did is IVF, not IUI but I think my doctor does that also. If you are working here, you can better do the procedure here…the prices in the Philippines are almost the same naman if not more expensive (because if you do it there, you’d have to rent a place for like a month).
I’ll email you my doctor’s details. Goodluck to you too!

Hi, Jade. I’m so glad you started this blog. I just relocated to Singapore with my husband a few months ago, and we would like to try IVF here.
Since you’ve been successful with IVF, I would really appreciate it if you would email me your doctor’s details and some comments about your experience with him/her (quality of service, cost for the entire treatment, etc.) as well.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and take good care of yourself and baby!

My wife and I have done over 10 IUI’s with no success. IVF here is $15,000.00 and only 40% chance. We would like to know about any other country doing this at a much cheaper cost but with GOOD results. My wife is Filipina and she also worked several years in Taiwan. So these areas are familiar. PLEASE HELPS US
